– Feed Your Body Feed Your Soul
My journey into health and healing began when I was really young. I remember in grade four someone asking me what I wanted to be when I grew up, and I replied, “a nutritionist” without any hesitation. I grew up during a time when meat and dairy were considered essential for growing children, but I had no interest. I would only eat the potatoes, vegetables and fruit. Even when I was little I inherently knew that eating fruits and vegetables was healthy, and eating meat was not. I grew up in Winnipeg in the 70’s and back then I was considered a hippy or on the fringe because I was vegan. I found a bakery that had ancient grain bread and I lived on peanut butter and banana sandwiches along with fruit and vegetables. My family clearly didn’t understand. This led me to years of experimenting with every plant-based food philosophy you could imagine.
Nutrition and health are my passion. I love researching and writing books, continuously learning and sharing my knowledge. I remember a quote I read a few years ago that really inspired me by Dr. Fabrizio Mancini. He said, “The doorway to perfect health opens inward.” In order to heal we need to look within and bring light to the darkest parts of ourselves. By bringing our awareness inwards, we can begin to feel things that lie under the surface of our ordinary awareness. “It takes courage to embrace the shadows of our lives,” says Ernest Holmes, but it’s necessary in order to grow and heal.
Our false beliefs and fears are what get in the way of healing, often causing us to feel powerless and vulnerable. The word FEAR stands for Forgetting Every Available Resource. We need to release the fear and have faith and trust that every resource needed is already inside us.
There is an emotional connection to why we get sick. We experience disharmony in our mind before it appears in our body. It starts off as a symptom, a sign that something is not right. Oftentimes, the symptom is ignored or quieted with medications. When there are unresolved past emotions and experiences, the residue gets stored in our tissues and creates energy blockages, which ultimately lead to pain and discomfort.
At one point in my life I was continuously getting sick with respiratory issues. Month after month it just kept getting worse until I realized that my body was giving me a message. It took being in bed for 3 weeks with pneumonia for me to finally acknowledge that I needed to resolve the deep sadness I had neatly tucked away. Disease often originates from an emotional conflict or pain, and if not addressed, will eventually manifest as a physical illness. At that point in my life, I felt as though I was swimming in an ocean of regret. I needed to go deep within and acknowledge and accept that we make decisions based on our state of consciousness at that time. The mistakes I’d made in the past were a necessary part of my journey. As I embraced this realization, a new sense of self emerged.
