Zonulin – Intestinal Permeability (Leaky Gut) Testing
The small intestine functions as a digestive/absorptive organ for nutrients as well as a barrier against bacteria, large protein molecules and other irritants. Essentially, the mesh in the digestive tract gets damaged and larger holes are created, so things that normally wouldn’t be able to pass through are now able to. This includes proteins such as gluten, undigested food particles, bacteria, and even toxic waste. This causes our immune system to react.
The controller of this gateway is Zonulin, a protein found in the intestinal cells. Zonulin helps regulate the leakiness of the gut by opening and closing the spaces between cells in the lining of the digestive tract.
High levels of Zonulin have been associated with increased intestinal permeability. Gut permeability leads to inflammation, nutrient deficiencies, and multiple food sensitivities, allergies, and skin issues. It can lead to malabsorption of many vital minerals and nutrients including zinc, iron, and vitamin B12.
Food Sensitivity Testing
Food sensitivity is an abnormal immune reaction to certain foods, with symptoms generally limited to the intestine (the gut). This distinguishes it from a food allergy, which can cause a multitude of symptoms including severe, life threatening, allergic reactions (anaphylaxis).
We are able to test up to 88 foods and highlight to what extent those foods are involved in the development of gut inflammation. Test results help to determine the possible source of enzyme deficiencies and whether they are coming from the stomach, pancreas and/or biliary system.
Hormone Saliva Testing
Saliva is a mirror of the body’s health and wellbeing. In fact, most of the bio-molecules found in blood and urine can also be found in saliva.
Diurnal Cortisol test measures the levels of the key stress hormone, cortisol, over one daily cycle.
The Adrenal Test measures the levels of cortisol collected from saliva at various times of the day, as well as the level of DHEA-S and helps evaluate adrenal gland function and hormone balance.
Female Wellness Tests
Female Wellness: Estradiol, progesterone, testosterone, DHEA-S and Cortisol (AM).
Female Wellness Plus: Estradiol, progesterone, testosterone, DHEA-S and Cortisol x 2 (AM/PM).
Female Wellness Daily Cycle: Estradiol, progesterone, testosterone, DHEA-S and Cortisol x 4 (diurnal cycle).
Interactions between these hormones have profound effects on fundamental health, which is why their imbalances can have a significant impact on our wellbeing.
Male Wellness Tests
Male Wellness: Estradiol, testosterone, DHEA-S and cortisol (AM).
Male Wellness Plus: Estradiol, testosterone, DHEA-S and cortisol x 2 (AM / Nightime).
Male Wellness Daily Cycle: Estradiol, testosterone, DHEA-S and cortisol x 4 (diurnal cycle).
Circadian Melatonin Test: The Circadian Melatonin test measures the levels of melatonin over a complete dark-light cycle and is measured two times in a day: noon and middle of the night.
If Melatonin imbalances occur there can be far reaching effects, including menstrual difficulties, sleep disorders, depression and Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). Melatonin also acts as an antioxidant and plays a role in the regulation of cardiovascular function and female reproductive hormones.
